Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr represented Sierra Leone on the global stage during London Climate Action Week 2026, where she called for stronger international support for cities leading the fight against climate change.

As the Global Co-Chair of C40 Cities, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized that cities in the Global South are already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change and require increased investment, innovation, and partnerships to build resilient communities.
